Immortals did not just appear one day out of the blue. They are leftover survivors from the cataclysm which destroyed Atlantis. I am one of those Immortals. My name is "Tret-ar-ous Nim-bus Ex-sol-us", which when translated in our ancient tongue means, "Undying Light of The Holy Crystal." I was born to be one of the chief princes of Atlantis The Great. Before Atlantis was destroyed, we sent out members of our society into all the world. We sent out Merchants, Artistans, Musicians, Scientists, Healers, Philosophers, Poets, Mages, Teachers, Priests,Woodworkers, Metalworkers, Goldsmiths and Stonemasons to spread the seed of our culture into the outermost parts of the earth. All the mighty kingdoms which came after us, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome, all of them grew and benefited from the knowledge which was spread abroad by the elite members of our race. Then, when Atlantis was destroyed, I survived, and wandered throughout history as an Immortal, without a country, or people of my own. I have been a warrior in ancient Greece, a poet in Persia, a knight in medieval England, an artist in Renaissance Italy, a musician in France, a seer in the Holy Lands, and a hermit.
Then about the time of the middle ages, I rode with King Richard the Lion-Hearted, to try and reclaim the Holy Lands. Though my fellow Crusaders and I fought valiantly and reclaimed all the coastal cities for Christendom, King Richard declined an attempt to recapture Jerusalem, for the army he claimed, was too small, and we would be drawn too far away from our base of supplies and thus, would never be able to outlast Saladin and his army. Finally, after many years of hard fighting, an agreement between the two mighty rulers was reached, and a truce was called. Then, during a parley for peace with Saladin, I fell in love with a member of his royal Harem. She was the loveliest creature I had ever beheld in all my long existence. Prince Saladin, who exemplified all the qualities of Chilvary, gave her to me as a gift, for he said he favored me above all the other ambassadors, which the King had sent. We spent many happy days together, growing in love for each other, and in learning for our two cultures. As a token of my love, I gave to her a ring, with my family emblem on it. She gave to me a necklace of hers with the same. Then, when the King left the Holy Lands, she begged me to stay with her and convert to her faith, but I could not for I still owed my alligiance to the King. When I left, she was overcome by grief and took her own life. A member of the Prince's royal court brought to me her death tokens...a blood stained dagger and a necklace which bore a rose of gold. I was stricken with inexpressible guilt and remorse. I put the necklace on, and swore to always wear it in honor of her memory.
Afterwards, for a time....I left the habitations of men, and swore never to have anything to do with the human race again. The pain of losing my true love, tore my heart in two. I became a hermit, and lived on a deserted island for many years, close to the site where Atlantis once stood. Then, one night as I was laying on a soft, grassy hill, gazing up at the sky, I had a vision. I beheld the face of my beloved among the stars. She was still as lovely as she was the day I first saw her. I wept that such beauty as hers should be lost to the world. Then, she spoke to me from the heavens. She told me to return once more to the world of men. She said they needed me, to help them find their way. She asked me to do this thing in remembrance of the special bond we once shared, and I could not deny her. So once more, I changed my appearance, and returned to dwell among the human beings that I had left behind. Now, I walk in the midst of them, sharing in their heartaches and their sorrows. I try to help those I can, hoping one day to be accepted as their friend.
